Summertime....Summertime
We are speeding through the summer!
Paul is now in a carpool for the trip to work and we are all enjoying that as it helps our budget and gets Paul home an hour earlier in the evening! Yeah! He has also started helping a local farmer by milking his 4 cows on MWF evenings for a couple of months. This certainly has its challenges but Paul says he is learning a lot and that makes it very enjoyable.
I am nearing the halfway point of the canning season--whew! Still canning tomatoes and applesauce still to come. However, beans and peaches are all behind us now. Also put up (froze) corn, broccoli, peaches, tomatoes (for canning tomatoe soup in the winter months), blueberries, strawberries, and zucchini. We have also harvested our potatoes and beets and got them into cold storage for the winter. Squash is still coming on as is pumpkin so the work is far from over. I enjoy having all these yummy foods to eat in the winter but what a bummer that canning has to happen during the hottest season!
Alia is growing and changing...her dark hair turned platinum blonde this summer and her words are slowly starting to come as well. "Baby" and "dog" are the newest. She is completely delightful some days and has me pulling out my hair on others. She takes great joy in following the dog around trying to make her "play with Alia". When she gets what she set out to do (blanket over the dog's head, ribbon over the dogs wagging tail, recline on the dog while Angel is trying to nap, etc), she giggles with glee and it is obvious that she loves her doggie even though we are sure Angel doesn't appreciate the attention.
Lil' Sprout is doing very well...nothing unusual to report. Started feeling hiccups yesterday and he/she "punches" Alia whenever I am carrying the elder sibling. Who knew sibling rivalry could start pre-birth!
Paul recently acquired a bunch of beekeeping materials (hives, extractor, smoker, hat, buckets) very cheaply on a neighbor's yard sale. Yeah! We think that we will not be prepared to begin keeping bees this coming spring, but definitely the spring of '09. We are very much looking forward to having our own honey again!
August has been a busy month as we attended family reunions 3 weekends in a row! Fun but exhausting! We are looking forward to this holiday weekend being slow and very laid back and most importantly...at home!
I added a few of the newest pictures on our pic site. We will write again when time allows! Take Care!
